Defending Violent Video Games in Adolescents - 1218 Words

Do parents know what violent video games their children are playing? Playing violent games is nontoxic, exciting fun, and no more harmful than watching something graphic on television. This is an arguable point, and people want to know if violence shown in video games cause aggression, violent actions, bullying, or weapon skills. The answer to this is a no-brainer; most parents go about their busy lives and leave their children unsupervised when these activities are taking place. If parents are worried about what their children are learning from this, then they should be under adult supervision during these activities or banned from them. It is the responsibility of the parents and not the law to make sure that their sweet children†¦show more content†¦He also says that if empathy were to be taken out of the human equation then violent video games could possible desensitize us to violence. For most people however this is not the case; Most humans still have a strong s ense of empathy and that allows us to realize what is wrong from right. One of the most ridiculous common claims that are made against violent video games is that they can actually train people to become killers. Proponents of this view argue that they not only give players the skills to carry out their destructive wishes or that they desensitize, but that merely playing a game or seeing it can drive one to reproduce the harmful acts represented in the game. If true, this would be the most worrying of the three hypotheses.† However the important point to take away from this is that video games may indeed train people to hurt others but there are huge differences between violence in a video game and violence in the real world.
